Isaac seeks eclectic and unusual soft goods—textiles, garments, objects, really anything terrestrial—that contemplate and challenge preconceptions of fashion, beauty, and modern commerce. The clothing and objects we select are a way of seeing. Everyone participates in fashion’s ecosystem. Our pliable goods are a conscious and unconscious contemplation of the contours of our desires and aesthetics. These broad resonances afford so much texture, richness, and ultimately intrigue to even the most mundane. The closer you look, the more the embedded elements start to connect, and the more visible the tessellating roots become.
Isaac’s collection and research practice are methods of reconciling and acquiring deep knowledge of how the fashion industry operates and manufactures meaning. Trends within pliable goods are cyclical, their patterns and articulations rhythmically reoccurring and reproducing within the marketplace. How trends manifest and evolve mimics the process of Isaac’s additive sculptural weaving practice. Much as Isaac’s weavings find their form through intentional, meticulous repetition, the sensibility underpinning his collection of pliable goods derives from consistenly visiting, examining, and researching disparate marketplaces and sites of commerce.
The study of the feedback loops present in both realms mutually reflects and reinforces both aspects of Isaac’s practice. It is this harmony of repetition in both artistic practice and curation that leads to insight, knowledge, discovery, and creation. As such, the garments Isaac collects are not confined to any single category or era, aesthetic or otherwise. Each piece is selected as a celebration of the unusual, eccentric, and unexpected, cohering through how they individually explore, reference, and interrogate fashion’s myriad tropes and archetypes. Isaac’s curational sensibility is guided by dynamic curiosity and a love for how clothes communicate truths about their wearers.
Isaac’s research reflexively informs his artistic practice. As a maker, Isaac’s interest lies within the manipulation and transformation of materials and the collaborative nature of the finite object. Isaac’s designs seek practical solutions through process and practice, and his primary interest lies in the exploration and interrogation of foundational and basic design elements. Common sense and an integrated, open approach drive the discovery and exposure of universal constants. Curiosity, experimentation, and a constant urge to produce lead to understanding, innovation, and development.
